Cross Stitch Box

Another week has just zoomed past, they seem to go quicker and quicker.

This week I can show you the finished box that has cross stitched fronts. A while ago I purchased a plain wooden box from Lidle's and it came in very handy for storing those small crafting bits and bobs that get lost, but, it was pretty boring to look at. I used my favourite red and white fabric to cover the sides and top and dyed some aida (16ct) with tea so it has a nice browny look and adapted some googled cross stitch images, and out came the red embroidery thread.

Now, the first three drawers were very straightforward, but after that it went downhill! One of the patterns bled the red colour when I pasted it with glue, so had to do another one and although the cross stitch on the front of the bottom box was a very simple pattern I kept making mistakes....grrrr.

HH made me a little shaped back and sides for the top of the box to finish it off. There are  little fabric pulls on the top of each drawer, with the bottom one having two pulls. I wouldn't make another one it was more fluffing and fiddling than I care to do, and even now, I keep prodding and poking it as it hasn't glued very well. The paper rose matches it very well tho, I think, so that's an upside as well as keeping the crafty bits all in one place.

While my visiting daughter has taken all her crafting bits home with her and emptying some of my supplies in the process, another daughter was busy making herself an all purpose bag.
She had a jacket that didn't fit anybody so it was taken apart and this is what she has come up with. Dd needed an everyday lightweight, washable, sturdy, small bag. Even tho its not a large bag, it certainly holds an enormous amount, bit like a tardis inside! I'm not kidding you she could easily pack half my cottage in there! Inside it  has a couple of useful  pockets and a hidden pocket in the shoulder strap (ingenius cos even when she pointed it out I couldn't see it!)
Hmmm need to keep an eye on my jackets now just in case they re-appear as a bag!!.

Hope you all have a good crafty week.

  1. How lovely that you passed your crafting abilities on to your daughters. Your box looks like an antique and was definitely worth all the frustrations you went through to get there. It looks amazing and I am sure that you will get a load of pleasure from using it. :)

  4. Have to agree with all the other comments.....the box looks fabulous! You put me to shame....I've got 3 of those Ikea plain wooden drawer chests....one for sewing threads, one for crafty bits and one for my chocolate stash....hahaa....and nary a one has a single lick of paint or embellie...might have to send 'em to you....minus the choccie, of course!
The craft gene is definitely strong in your family....fab bag!

  5. Your box does look amazing, although I do recognise that "never again" feeling you sometimes get after a project. The bag looks great, too. I love the idea of creating something good from something unwanted.

  9. That box is to die for, I love it, but can only imagine the amount of work that went into it.
My hubby has a jacket that looks a bit like that bag - I might have to "disappear" it and see if he notices!
